Dealing with the Unthinkable

In the past couple of weeks, we've moved from denial and disbelief to shock about the current health and resulting economic crisis. Enterprises can not afford to be paralyzed with fear. You must deal with the unthinkable now!

The questions below need to be addressed before the need arises:

  • Who are the backups for all your critical people, and are they prepared for a bad situation that gets worse?

  • Is there a current list of security keys and processes for the backup people?

  • Who will tell the backups that they are “it”? (and the people who then report to them?)

  • People who work together get sick together – then what will you do?

  • When (not “if”) a manager is just out-of-touch-remote, and you need to make a decision, how will the manager backup know when they need to make the decision

  • What if you're the one who goes out sick? Who does your family tell? and how? and when?
