Post 10 Transforming your business — The Joy of Packaging

Jim and his team’s excitement at the new distribution contract were tempered by costly packaging requirements. They thought that they could get by with a minimal package with a smart but minimalist black and white design.


Jim and Susan visited several retailers together to look at comparable product packaging. Almost every package used four color printing. Several retailers devoted much of their display space to products hanging from hooks.


Standard sizing was also required. The original packaging would be too wide for standard store shelves. Luckily the product would accommodate different packaging.


Jim picked a packaging design shop that was able to help him create standard packaging. Now he had to go back to his east Asian manufacturer and get a bid on producing the packaging.


The next step was to start production, now that Jim knew exactly what he had to deliver to the distributor for the retail channel.
