Alien Encounters with your Enterprise

EkaLore’s been releasing notes on Aliens (www.ekalore.com/alien-invaders) disruptively invading markets. This series may strike people as entertaining, but for enterprises gigantic and tiny, these business models and behaviors have serious implications. Why should you and your enterprise care?

Alien invaders matter to you and your enterprise because their disruptive behaviors go far beyond their targeted markets. You should care because Amazon started with the quiet book-seller’s market – and now is threatening traditional business models in many different marketplaces. Traditional and time-honored business customs and relationships are being eliminated by “Aliens”.

Amazon (and all online ecommerce) creates new opportunities for market entrants and market invasions. A tiny vendor selling via Amazon (or other marketplace) looks almost identical to larger, better resourced competitors without an investment in sophisticated D2C technologies. Doing business with Amazon, as an example, gives customers confidence that the product is in stock and can ship, the money-back guarantees will be honored (and thus dealing with a new vendor has fewer risks), and customers have a ready means of comparing products and vendors.

Our next post will cover – All this disruption sounds great for the customer, but what about me and my enterprise?
