4) Have the longest time before they deliver benefits (or slow to ramp benefits)

5) Have the highest rate of investment per amount returned

6) Consumes the most direct staff time

7) Can’t accelerate to save money this year


And, here’s the most important ‘gotcha’: Do all the counting and ranking with original promises of benefits and current costs.


Want extra points? – Use TCO, costs including end-user expenses, or complexity based on how much non-IT staff time is required.


It’s quite possible that enterprise IT management teams have lost sight of what the current numbers are compared to what was promoted. Not knowing is frequent as benefits, timelines, legal/regulatory requirements, and management priorities change.
