Crisis Exercises for Enterprise IT part 3 of 3

IT management knows projects that are:

8) “Must have” (legal, regulatory, competition-in-your-face, public-facing)

9) “Technology critical” (technology debt upgrades, capacity/cloud savings, security, redundant infrastructure, critical facilities)

10) “Sales critical” – new sales models, global, or

that will pay this year

If there is too big a list for #8, #9, and #10 – all expensive, then cutting will be really hard. In a pushing and shoving fight the technology debts, robust infrastructure, and new tools for enterprise IT will be losers. Training, new hires, and productivity software are already gone.

If this exercise is difficult – cutting will be really painful, so Cut Big, Cut Now! If this exercise is easy, you’ll already know what to do. In a later post we’ll talk about how to save projects – and people.
