Current Marketplace Observations #3

What are the drivers behind today’s business headlines?

An Enterprise organizational structure change is happening at scale here in the US and Globally. Enterprises are embracing remote work and reducing administrative overhead. Ford is cutting up to 3,000 more white-collar workers out of a total layoff of og31,000 workers in 4Q 2022. This comes after cutting 7,000 workers in 2019. That earlier cut was intended to save USD $600M of bureaucracy and increase reports per manager. That’s not the end for reductions, White-collar automation will continue to reduce enterprise headcount. Structural changes will inevitably follow. This will force the following decisions:

Given legal, regulatory, and other rules how many groups can be consolidated and reduced?

Prior trends elevated groups to participate in decision-making above middle management tiers – is this the best way for agile decision-making?

Industries with new regulatory worries (privacy, export/import, domestic content) and new legal concerns (including antitrust, investment) need to be restructured – what’s required and what’s needed?
