Dynamic India – Games Afoot II continued

In our previous post – Dynamic India Games Afoot II, the ban on Krafton’s game “Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).” This was a game with massive reach within India. Banned in 2022, the Indian Government recently allowed it to be reinstated on a trial basis.

Krafton Gaming is a South Korean enterprise. The foreign direct investments by Chinese investors into Krafton resulted in Tencent controlling 13.5% of the enterprise. Krafton’s properties included Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), Road to Valor: Empires, New State Mobile, The Callisto Protocol, Moonbreaker, TERA, and Elyon. Krafton is also an investor (foreign direct investment) of more than USD$100M into startups like Nodwin Gaming, Loco, FRND, Pratilipi, One Impression, Nautilus Mobile, Kuku FM, and Lila games.

Foreign direct investments are a sought-after result for the Government. Krafton's major effort to operate, invest, and grow profits in India, conflicts with the government opposing aim to constrain Chinese presence. This is a global problem. Consider the actions USA Federal Government evaluates TikTok and like apps. ChatGPT has seen restrictive regulations in Italy.

This will not be the last conflict for Dynamic India to work on the competitive global tech enterprise stage. Expanding operations for Krafton will likely include setting up the “back office” handling for all of the BGMI adjusting software, handling payments processing and storage, and driving much deeper engagement for the mobile app. Large capital infusions and investments into a Dynamic India will see a substantial worker large presence, sometimes in conflict with other government objectives.
