How can Enterprise IT raise its corporate reputation?

Updated: Sep 25, 2020

Enterprise IT can change perceptions by helping meet budget challenges, and not causing problems. Just as enterprise IT groups moved incredibly fast to work at home challenges they can respond credibly to budget cuts. A few ways:

1)        Look at stretching out projects and preserving staff by getting the same work done over a longer period with fewer staff members.

2)        Fight to keep your best staff engaged with projects with a very short goal, and a longer-term goal at the same time.

An example is scrapping software licenses not needed anymore with moves to the cloud – someday someone was going to get around to that. At the same time set up the business cases to combine servers and upgrade the software to run in the cheapest manner.

3)        Ante up a big project to cut. Enterprise IT must know better than even the executive sponsor what needs to die and what projects are duds.

4)        Anticipate losing more IT staff and having IT staff take over other departments IT that was done locally. Talk now about headcount, costs, and responsibilities.

5)        Talk to stakeholders about changing priorities, budgets, and schedules. Be prepared to totally change enterprise IT development priorities, staff allocations, and schedules.

Enterprise IT lost credibility over time. It will take time to earn back. Better to start today.
