Post 10 – Another log in the fire

The CEO was a bit shaken by her meeting with Millicent Murray from the hospital’s Board. A short time later the General Counsel ducked his head in her office between her standing morning meetings.

“Apparently, the message that we keep the breach secret until we have to file wasn’t heard by everyone. Some one made some off hand comments at a local bar. I’ve heard off the record that we’ve got a major lawsuit brewing. We can expect to be served any day now. To make matters worse, the regulators I’ve been dealing with have decided to open a case concerning our handling of the breach when we officially notify them. Our outside legal firm’s preliminary audits suggest our security record keeping is under par.”

The CEO smiled and sarcastically replied,

“Any other good news?”

The General Counsel said,

“The CIO is directly responsible for security reporting in our Policies.”

The CEO nods.

“This isn’t the only reason he’s on thin ice.”

The CEO realized that the buck couldn’t stop with the Director of Security. A higher level sacrifice would be necessary.
