Post 12 - The Search Begins (A New Chapter)


The CIO met with the VP of HR the next morning. He’d put together a profile, but realized there were a few other things he needed to mention. Although he’d emailed the profile before the meeting, he’d printed it out. He handed a copy to the VP as he walked into her office.


“We’re shorthanded” she announced. She continued, “as much as you want this done yesterday, we still have to follow our guidelines. Holly tells me we haven’t looked for a position like this for a few years. People tend to stay in these jobs longer. “


The CIO read through the profile.


“This isn’t just any security architect. Given the breach, the new push for regulatory compliance we’re looking for someone a little unusual. Tell me a little about how you’re going to punch up our usual description.”


The HR VP looked back at him,

“We’re not going to alter the description. Legal needs to re-evaluate descriptions whenever we change them. To save time, we’ll just advertise with an old description and verbally update prospective candidates.”


The CIO asked if they could expedite this through legal, and after a hard stare from across the desk, he simply said “I need to get results within two weeks, and I hope a hire onboard within one month”


“30 days is lightning fast for this organization. Don’t forget we’ve got background checks, screening, not to mention my recruiter has vacation scheduled for next week. Don’t get your hopes up.”


The CIO realized that no one had more at stake with this search than he did. That wouldn’t stop other people from chiming in.
