Post 14 – The Media Speaks Up

In our last post, the General Counsel shared a few must-haves for the new Security Architect post. The CIO replied with a few requests of his own.

The breach had become front-page news in the local paper. Breaches hit the news on a regular basis, but the hospital’s local community had not experienced a local breach. The hospital PR spokesperson was asked about an identity theft accusation by a local resident. Their identity had been stolen after a short hospital stay.

The PR spokesperson responded — “We will act of course in the event of notification. We’re in the process of following through using our official breach protocol. We can’t comment on an individual case. “

The CEO read the story on her phone and paced back and forth in her office. She called both HR and the CIO and asked for progress. She told both the HR VP and the CIO they were responsible for getting new talent and following through on the breach in place ASAP. Her attempt to deliver this message in calm and measured tones still conveyed anger and frustration in her voice. The CIO instant messaged the HR VP and asked for a quick meeting the next morning before opening of day.

Despite the efforts of the CIO, bad news seemed to follow him. Now it was time to advance the search in an effort to shore up his position.
