Post 22 - A New Security Concern

In our last post, trying to lower the contingency rate to fund higher benefits backfires. In the meantime, another complication is brewing.

At a security department meeting, a newer security analyst spoke up, “We’re so focused on classic phishing attacks, we may be missing IoT-based attacks. There is a lot of chatter on the boards about preventing these attacks via M2M log analysis.”

Holly, the former Director of Security had never considered this a priority. The staff seemed to get pretty excited about the comment. A number of people reacted by reinforcing the idea this was a worthwhile addition to their security efforts. As he left the room, he could hear junior people waxing eloquent about IoT security attacks as the “Next big thing.”

The CIO decided to see if it was feasible to add an M2M analysis requirement to the new lead Security Architect space.

The CIO heard his team and acknowledged their collective concerns. That doesn’t mean he can address them.
