Post 23 — HR's Reaction to "Just one more thing"

In our last post, the security team requested a new technology competence.

The CIO called the HR VP at the end of the day to ask about adding another requirement. He explained what he’d heard.

The HR VP listened patiently. and then replied, “That’s more than enough detail. Of course, we can add in additional technical requirements.

We’re updating the candidates verbally about details so this is just one more talking point, but let me ask you — Would you reject a candidate who didn’t have that specific experience? How many years of experience should they have? Are there specific vendor products you have in mind?”

“It’s a new area. There are a couple of vendors in the space, but it’s pretty new”

“Are you willing to delay the search because this requirement knocks out current candidates?”

“No.”

“I’ll add it to the interview check list as a plus.”

The CIO spent time for no real results. Unfortunately, the pressure from the situation will only grow.
