Post 25 – The Trusted Advisor provides advice

In our last post, the CEO and the General Counsel discussed a notice from an agency announcing the opening of a case.

The CEO met Millie early at her legal office. Though she was semi-retired, Millie still had an office at the firm.

Millie smiled and asked, “I’ve got my Agenda back-up package. Haven’t read it yet. Are you ready for the board meeting next week?”

The CEO related the communication from the agency, and the response from the General Counsel.

Millie looked at the CEO and paused before speaking. “News of this improperly handled could have serious financial implications. As the leader of the organization, you will be held responsible if you don’t take obvious corrective action.

Tell me how many breaches has your General Counsel handled in his career?”

“Well, none.”

Millie looked at her and said, “You need a specialist.”

“Well, that means a call to the CFO.” Said the CEO

“You are protecting the finances and reputation of the hospital, not to mention your position.

On another topic. The CIO was supposed to come up with a new star security architect and presumably a plan to get you out of this. Is there progress?”

The CEO sighed deeply. “The CIO has been looking for the past few weeks, and we’ve still got no one who’s even close to the right level. He’s whined about budget and HR”

“Maybe the CIO is just out of his depth too. You can only blame him for lack of progress for so long. Having the wrong person for the job is your responsibility “, Millie replied.

The CEO smiled and got up. She shook Millie’s hand and said, “I intend to survive this crisis. Don’t worry I’ll make things happen.”
