Post 30. The Run Through

The CEO didn’t always have plan a run-through for the Board Meeting, but she expected this one to be tense. It was common that the CIO or other members of her staff attend the meetings, but on this occasion, she informed her team that only the General Counsel would be present.

The CEO was a great presenter and generally didn’t need much help, but today, she looked for guidance from the team on delivery.

The first item on the agenda would be the official breach report to the regulators. They were coming to the end of the grace period for reporting. She was satisfied with the material the GC put in front of her.

The next topic was the new security exec search. The CIO had crafted a message describing what this person would do to remediate the current situation and protect the hospital. The CEO looked hard at the document and looked right at the CIO and said, none this means anything without a candidate. “Get Going”

The CFO went next and talked about the budget reductions he was instituting with the clinical and the operations teams. Although the CIO had reduced budget through headcount and project changes, none of these reductions were mentioned.

Finally, the HR VP provided background on the employee reassurance campaign requested by the CEO. That was received warmly.

The CEO thanked the team. As they were leaving, she asked the GC to stay behind. “Did you get what you needed during the meeting?”

“Yes. You are within your rights to demand progress from the search.”

The CIO found himself to be the whipping boy. Any bad news would mean more punishment if he didn’t show results quickly.
