Post 36 – Pep Talk

The CIO was excited to meet the latest candidate. He’d gotten glowing reports from HR and from one of his acting team leads.

The candidate came into his office. Well-spoken, quiet yet determined, the candidate had produced results in two different hospitals during similar breach situations. The CIO got more excited the longer he talked with the candidate.

The CIO sat back after about twenty minutes and asked the candidate where they saw themselves in five years. The candidate chuckled and said that building out security architectures and implementing them was an evolving task. The job changes every time technology advances. I’d like to continue to grow with the industry.

The CIO talked about the breach as a turning point for the hospital. ‘Security is finally going to get the attention it deserves. of the things it deserves is great technical leadership. The right person for this job will be lined up to be our first CISO.”

The HR liaison received a polite but curt response from the candidate, the position and the offer were good, but the final communication had convinced him that this was going to be too high pressure for his tastes.

More bad news for the CIO to deliver, but at least there is an alternative this time.
