In our last post, the CIO had given an enthusiastic pep talk to the chosen candidate, it had the unintended consequence of scaring the prospect off.
The CEO called the CIO to ask about progress. “I hear we have an offer out.”, she said.
The CIO replied, “Our top candidate has rejected the offer, but it’s only a little setback.”
The CEO's voice hardened a bit, “A setback this close to the next board meeting is not little. Get on to the next candidate. I need good news for this meeting. Get me some results.”
The CIO mentioned that his grand plan for updating their security was moving along.
The CEO replied, “I think it will look much better if it’s authored by this new Security Architect. Don’t spend any more time on that. Focus on getting the new hire onboard.”
The CIO realized that his input beyond the search was not wanted. The CEO was about to discuss what do about him.
