Post 43 – Getting things in order

In our last post, the Security Architect candidate had accepted the offer, passed the background check, and was ready to come on board in two weeks.

The CEO reacted positively to the news of the new hire. She complimented the CIO on getting things done. She suggested that he come into her office to talk about next steps.

A couple of hours later, the CIO walked through the hospital complex to the CEO’s office. It was a long walk, and he thought about how much time and mental effort went into this search. He was happy about finally bringing it to a close.

The CEO welcomed him and asked him to debrief her a little on the new hire and next steps.

The CIO told her about the new hire’s background. 15 years in cybersecurity. 3 years serving in military cybersecurity, 7 years at a large hospital in the northeast, and finally 5 years at another hospital on the west coast.

“What attracted him to our hospital?” said the CEO

“He’s been at large hospitals on the coasts, but his wife’s family is from around here. When he heard that there was a chance to work here, he jumped at it. He’s also dealt with phishing attacks at both his previous two positions. I’m excited that we could get someone of his caliber.”

“What are the plans for him?”

“He’s going to take a leadership role. Although officially he’s an architect, I see him as part of the leadership team in Security.”

The CEO thanked him and asked for a copy of his resume that she could present to the Board.
