Pfizer used the existing collaboration with BioNTech to bet on a technology already identified for a new type of vaccine.
Solve problems using resources and technical know-how in trades for keeping times short. Pfizer used a lot of money, relationships, and management attention to solve problems. Systems/process engineering was key to solving issues coming from science (highest quality controls from materials to jab), logistics (a cold chain never scaled), data integration (rapid clinical data analysis, IoT logistics tracking, product traceability), and production (equipment and supplies).
Apply resources needed. Redundancy and “just in case” spending was used to keep times short. Pfizer spent its own money to assure results instead of fighting for “just good enough” budgeting.
