Part 2 — Post 20 Problem Child (Fix it, Kill it, Wait)

Updated: Aug 16, 2023

The company has been searching for a path to scale. Sales overall are scaling but one of the new add-on products they created to increase profits is struggling.

Jim reviews the sales numbers with the team and asks what they should do with the underperforming product. Though customers occasionally post about the 2nd product, they’re certainly not buying it in any quantity. He asks the team if they should drop the product altogether.

Adam thinks it’s time to just dump the product. Jim responds that it’s still a sizeable amount of money. Sharon wondered about bundling. “If we put out a promotion on social media – Buy the original and get the premium for just $5 more, it would look like a bargain”

Jim loved the idea. After hurting feelings from the loyalty campaign, he asked Sharon to create the campaign. The company was going to turn lemons into lemonade. They would convert the inventory to cash and increase the average ticket price.
