Post 30 –Postscript – (Fund now and act, Learn More, Go to Crisis)

Updated: Aug 16, 2023

Jim had finally articulated the strategy and the numbers that Mike J. had been waiting to hear.

Mike J. folded it into a larger business he owned. During the transition, Sharon and Adam continued to work on the business for several months. Though it was still an after-hours for Adam and Sharon to work on the venture, now they were paid cash for extra hours.

Jim got to walk away with more money than the number he had in his head, and his two part-time helpers got a payout that was even better than the numbers in their heads.

Adam got promoted at his day job, his management team observed that he began to understand what management needed at a much deeper level than his peers. He was promoted to a position with a P/L responsibility.

Sharon continued to grow her social media marketing practice. Her customers began to talk about how well she was able to anticipate the unspoken numbers they had in their heads for customer acquisition goals. Her biggest customer told her “You’re not just another vendor anymore Sharon. You ‘get’ the business where other marketing people are guessing.”

The story’s participants all had “numbers in their heads” that they saw from different perspectives and different objectives. Until they learned to define and communicate with other people too much was lost between people to get the right things done. The rewards didn’t come until learning and communication happened between people who were concentrating on what they knew had to happen. Only then could what all of them wanted to happen.

Now it’s your turn. When you are going to start something and take the risk that it takes off?

Decision: Fund and take over (eliminated: Learn More and Wait)
